Hola a todos, os transmito dos ofertas para hacer un doctorado en nuestro laboratorio en el INRA.
Son dos puestos durante 3 años en el centro del INRA de Jouy-en-Josas (París) para realizar el Doctorado.
The Animal Genetics and Integrative Biology unit (GABI) of INRA (Jouy-en-Josas, France) is looking for highly motivated candidates for the two PhD positions (three years) described bellow.

The selected candidates must have a Master degree (or equivalent) and will apply to the ABIES PhD program of the AgroParisTech University in Paris (http://www.agroparistech.fr/abies/en). Any student, from any country, can apply if he/she has the required Master qualification.

PhD: 'Genetics and genomics of pig immune response'

The global aim of the PhD thesis will be to carry out a detailed characterization of the genetic variability of the various components of pig immune traits (IT) with the long term objective of contributing to the selection of porcine populations that are less susceptible to pathogens. The project will be based on data already obtained by the team within IMMOPIG and SUS _ FLORA research projects (funded by the French National Research Agency). The detailed objectives will be :
1. to estimate the genetic relationships between IT and other economically important traits and evaluate the importance of potential genotype x environment interaction.
2. to fine-map existing QTL regions for pig IT with advanced genome-wide association approaches using high-density (60K) genotyping.
3. to propose and follow-up positional candidate gene analyses for the major QTL effects of interest.
4. to implement integrative biology approaches to include the expression of genes in the genetics models and characterize the gene networks and pathways involved in IT variations.

Although knowledge of molecular biology would be very useful, the thesis will mainly focus the computational biology field. The student will also be required to propose strategies to deepen the results obtained during the thesis while they are being generated.

Additional details (partially in French) of the position can be found at ABIES: http://www.agroparistech.fr/abies/ead/ok/demande_these/2013_65.pdf

Interested candidates should mail a detailed CV, a cover letter and the contact details of a least one referee researcher to Jean-Pierre Bidanel (jean-pierre.bidanel@jouy.inra.fr) and Jordi Estellé (jordi.estelle@jouy.inra.fr) before May 15th 2013.

PhD:  'Methods to detect signatures of selection in experimental populations'

By combining modern high-throughput molecular tools, and powerful computing facilities in order to analyze large scale datasets, Population Genomics makes it possible to detect traces, or footprints, of selection. However, the time scale considered is in general much larger than that of applied experimental selection programs. The aim of the thesis is hence to determine whether it is also possible to detect footprints of recent selection, such as the one encountered in experimental programs. Here, it is assumed that the stronger intensity of directional selection, compared to the natural selection generally considered, should counter-balance the effect of a reduced number of generations, and still make it possible to differentiate the effects of selection from those of random genetic drift. The work will be based on theory and computer simulations; a liking for those approaches is hence mandatory.

Interested candidates should mail a detailed CV, a cover letter and the contact details of at least one referee researcher to Frederic Hospital (frederic.hospital@jouy.inra.fr) before May 15th 2013.
